The Voltage Headache
To keep your glass intact, you need heat that’s steady and uniform. But here’s the thing: your power supply is often the hidden culprit. If you’re running a line in North America on 110V, but your heating elements were built for 230V, you’re never going to hit that critical soak temperature. You’ll be chasing your tail all day. On the flip side, if you try to force too much voltage into a lamp that isn’t rated for 480V or 575V, you’ll burn through your filaments in a matter of hours. It’s a waste of time and money. Why “Just Using a Transformer” Doesn’t Work

When we dial in the voltage for your specific site, we make sure the heat density (those W/cm² numbers) stays exactly where it needs to be for your annealing curve. Now, you might be tempted to just throw a transformer on the line to “make it work.” Don’t. Transformers can introduce ripples and voltage drops that mess with your heat. A lamp that’s designed specifically for 480V just works. It hits the right electrical resistance and gives you a steady, predictable heat load.
A Word on Power and Heat
If you’re using high-wattage lamps at 575V, you’re getting a massive amount of heat. It’s great for ramping up temperatures quickly. But there’s a catch. The more power you pump in, the more heat leaks back into the oven housing. If you don’t have the right cooling fans and heat shields to handle that ambient load, you’re looking at warped lamp fixtures. It’s all about balance.
